Assmaa is a PhD candidate in Chemical Physiology & Biochemistry (PBMS program) at the Show-Ling Shyng lab, where her research centers on the cell signaling pathways involved in insulin secretion. Originally from Egypt, she earned her medical degree and a master's in medical biochemistry from Tanta University. In 2020, she joined the PBMS PhD program, dedicating her efforts to discovering new therapeutic approaches for congenital hyperinsulinism. She is very excited to serve as the Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion this year and is eager to engage with you on any DEI-related questions or initiatives you may have! Beyond the lab, she finds joy in various hobbies such as reading books, listening to music, and exploring the art of cooking.
